Bosch is a leading international company whose products, services, technologies, and visions influence many areas of everyday life. The company’s main goal is to create a connected way of living through an innovative approach.
The story of Bosch began in 1886 when Robert Bosch founded the “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering” in Stuttgart, Germany. The company quickly gained customers and gradually expanded. In 1902, the company’s chief engineer, Gottlob Honold, introduced a revolutionary idea — a high-voltage system with magneto ignition and a spark plug — which brought the company worldwide recognition. Further innovative ideas followed, strengthening the company’s position on the market. Although the development of the company was significantly affected by the two world wars, during which it lost many of its international locations, Bosch gradually rebuilt its position and continued to grow.
From the 1950s onward, demand for Bosch products grew rapidly, which led to a significant increase in production and the number of employees. The company’s expansion was so large that it became necessary to separate and independently manage individual divisions. The transformation of Bosch into a diversified global company took approximately twenty years. Originally focused mainly on the automotive industry, the company gradually expanded into mobile hydraulic systems, medical electronics, radio technology, integrated systems, telecommunications, and many other fields. An essential part of its development became its own research and development.
After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Bosch seized new opportunities and established subsidiaries in 13 countries of the former Eastern Bloc during the 1990s. The company also gradually established a presence in Asian markets. After 2000, it embraced the era of the internet and artificial intelligence and expanded into the fields of smart homes, smart cities, intelligent mobility, and automated processes. Today, the Bosch Group employs more than 420,000 people worldwide (including about 85,000 in research and development) across 468 locations in approximately 60 countries. The company reports annual revenues of around 88.2 billion EUR.
Bosch has been operating in the Czech Republic since 1991 and currently employs around 8,000 people across eight cities in the country (about 900 employees work in development and research). The company’s main areas of focus in the Czech Republic include mobility, home solutions, trade, and industry. For households, Bosch primarily offers advanced technologies and products such as garden tools, heating and hot water systems, home appliances, and power tools for DIY enthusiasts.
Bosch is aware of its social impact and therefore, in addition to developing precise technologies, products, and services, it also focuses on supporting culture, social life, human rights, diversity, and environmental protection. Its goal in this socially oriented area is to improve people’s quality of life and ensure sustainable livelihoods for both present and future generations. The company pays strong attention to renewable energy, operational safety, and environmentally friendly production methods. Its sustainability goals are clearly defined and expressed through measurable values.
