Fiskars specializes in products for the home, garden, and workshop. Since 1649, the company has lived by its motto “Making Every Day Exceptional.” Its signature orange color symbolizes quality, durability, and user comfort.
The roots of Fiskars trace back to 1649, when the eponymous ironworks was founded in the village of Fiskars, Finland. Initially producing nails, knives, and hoes, the company later expanded into cutlery and even produced Finland’s first steam engine in the 1830s. Over time, Fiskars diversified into agricultural machinery and tools. By the 1920s, the company went public, improved its technology, and added spring production to its operations.
Though the Great Depression and world wars slowed development, they did not stop it. After World War II, Fiskars restructured and moved to mass production. In 1967, the company launched scissors with orange plastic handles, revolutionizing the market. Since then, the orange color has become synonymous with Fiskars and was patented in 2003.
Today, Fiskars is part of Fiskars Group, which includes a portfolio of other high-quality brands. The group employs approximately 6,500 people and operates 350 stores in 29 countries. Fiskars products are recognized worldwide for their quality and innovation, winning awards such as Red Dot, Good Design, Ease-of-Use Commendation, and Green Design.
Fiskars focuses on gardening, kitchen, construction and demolition, and creative projects. Their products combine thoughtful design, quality materials, and expertise to ensure ease of use and efficiency. Gardening is made simpler, kitchen tasks more creative, and DIY projects more accessible. Fiskars also offers tools suitable for children, hobbyists, and professionals alike.
A key part of Fiskars’ philosophy is environmental responsibility. Sustainability is integrated into manufacturing and sales processes. Long-term goals for 2030 include reducing greenhouse gas emissions from operations by 60% (from 2017 levels) and from transportation and distribution by 30% (from 2018 levels), with a strong focus on recycling and eco-friendly practices.
