Kaldewei is a family-owned company that has focused since 1918 on creating visually precise and user-friendly bathroom environments. In addition to timeless design, the company maintains high standards for material quality, craftsmanship, safety, reliability, and sustainability, with strong attention to environmental protection.
The history of Kaldewei began in 1918 in Ahlen, Germany, when Franz Kaldewei established a small factory producing bathtubs, pans, and metal containers. Within three years, the production area increased more than sixfold. In 1928, Heinrich Kaldewei took over the company and, in 1932, launched the era of enamelled steel, developing the recipe in-house. By the 1950s, Kaldewei enamelled bathtubs dominated the sanitary ware market, gradually replacing traditional steel products.
By 1973, Kaldewei was a major player in the sanitary sector, focusing also on form and surface design. The portfolio offered solutions for virtually any bathroom. In 2015, the company innovated by offering customized shapes and colors, creating stunning bathrooms in private homes and hotels alike.
Today, under the leadership of the fourth generation of the Kaldewei family, the company offers over 600 models of bathtubs, shower trays, and washbasins. The wide variety makes it easy to find solutions for small or large bathrooms, including double bathtubs, corner or uniquely shaped models. Standout items include freestanding bathtubs. Shower trays come in ultra-flat designs for a modern look, and geometric options include square, quarter-circle, and pentagonal trays. Washbasins are available as countertop, inset, wall-mounted, or built-in versions, including double sinks.
Kaldewei products are distinguished by their material—enamelled steel—which provides perfect shape and smooth surfaces, as well as the possibility of custom-colored finishes to achieve a visually harmonious bathroom.
The company controls the entire production process at its Ahlen plant, from enamel production, steel forming, to final enamel finishing (KALDEWEI enamel). This ensures highly durable, long-lasting, and sustainable enamelled steel that considers current trends and minimizes environmental impact. Enamelled steel combines natural materials: steel provides strength, load capacity, and formability, while glass adds a luxurious appearance and resistance to chemicals and temperature changes. Bathtubs, trays, and washbasins maintain their beauty, functionality, and smooth surfaces even under heavy, long-term use.
Kaldewei prioritizes environmental responsibility. Enamelled steel is fully recyclable, and new products contain up to 20% recycled steel. The company also focuses on eco-friendly transport and logistics.
Kaldewei consistently achieves user comfort and visually distinctive bathrooms. The company collaborates with renowned designers such as Sottsass Associati, Phoenix Design, Werner Aisslinger, Tina Bunyaprasit, Anke Salomon, and Arik Levy. Its products have received over 120 international awards, including REDDOT Award, iF Product Design Award, Good Design, German Design Award, Design Plus, and Interior Innovation Award.
